How is the new Steam version? Did they change anything? Did they ever change the god-awful Midi audio format from the original PC version, or do they use MP3's like on the Playstation?

They uses OGG music files, it's no longer the midi version but not the original as well. There is a "Patch" for replacing current OGG to original soundtrack (Playstation Version) OGG

The graphics are about the same but re-done to be compatible with high screen resolutions.

There is an achievement system but to be honest, it's there just to fill a special feature list.

    Thats about it.

If they ever come out with a fully remade FFVII with new graphics, they could charge $100 a game and we would still buy it. Even the poorest of us FF fans would save up for it - it would be worth it.

The character textures and animations have been updated. They have better smoothing of the sprites and shading. There is less jaggies/pixelation on them. However, the drawn backgrounds are pixelated and somewhat stretched, but not enough to be appalling (atleast for me). Load times are faster, transitions into random battles are more fluid, and there is an apparent depth that makes the game look more 3D than its PSnetwork remake. Not sure if there is a side by side comparison yet on youtube, but for 5 bucks its worth getting.
Life is not short. Living is the longest thing that anyone ever does.
