Normally you would read about someone complaining that the trainer from Cheat Happens has caused a virus warning to pop up on their computer and they are freaking out. This isn't the case, this is actually the exact opposite of that.

After the patch today for Hitman Absolution I downloaded the new trainer, started it up, went to start up Hitman Absolution from Steam...

And my anti-virus popped up, telling me Hitman Absolution itself was a virus and immediately sealed one of its files without the option for me to ignore it or allow the file to run. I tried making an exception for the file, similar to what is done for some of the trainers to allow them to run as normal for my anti-virus, but it still wouldn't allow the game to run.

So I'm now attempting to reinstall the game through steam, even after trying a verify the game cache (which had failed and only resulted in another virus warning).

Has anyone else had a similar event occur, not just with Hitman but any game ever?

(and just to make it clear. There is no issue with the trainer at all, the issue was with the HA's game files downloaded through steam)

maybe your game does have a virus in it.. or maybe your anti-Virus is not working the way it should. how safe is your PC?? watch out for a hacker, my old Pc has been hack in to when i was playing FM 12. steam has lock my account for 1month, they though i was a hacker because the game has been runing on other PC in other country. i have to prove to them that i am the owner of the account b4 they unlock it. your chance is that when u last play hitman someone might just find a way to get in to your account, & do something with it ( i do no know what they would do ) and now your ant-V is telling you it a Virus for whatever reason a hacker did with your game. im sorry about my spelling i wasnt born in Aus, but i live here now lol... hope thats help
    I tell you later

Um there is no issue with the game from steam. Just ran it through 19 A/Vs Found nothing at all.

Not saying that there is anything wrong with the game itself through steam, just stating a fact that for some reason it was coming up as a virus warning on my system. Even after a re-download so I'm doing a full system sweep with my AV.

Edit: So 3 different AV sweeps later, only one minor threat was detected and it wasn't even in the same folder area at Hitman Absolution. So still not sure what to make of the virus warnings.

My AVG detected the same thing yesterday and claimed HMA.EXE was infected with the "Win32 Heur" virus. It's clearly a false positive. I disable the A/V and ran the game fine.

Yup! been on to a AVG support today did all the checks and still my premium AVG is saying ''Threat Detection'' for HMA.exe which we all know its not a virus. Best Advice Switch AVG off completly. if your worried coz u got no avg.. just switch Windows Defender on. Runs fine now. No problems.

Well I'm glad to know that I'm not going insane about AVG telling me its a virus.. hopefully though it'll get fixed soon, or I could remember how to make an exception for the file lol
