I think it depends on how you mean "future proof".
For someone (like me) future proof is a gaming rig with 700-800$ for 1-1.5 year with full graphics and on 2nd year buy a newest gpu (350$+).
For someone else future proof is a gaming rig with 1500$+ for 1 year maximum with full graphics, and on 1.5 year (because you might downscale Antialiasing by 6-8 lets say) buy a 500$ gpu.
It's all about smart buys. For example amd is more clever buy than intel because AM3+ will be for at least 3-4 years updatable and for the price.And yes it does everything a 2500k does maybe with 3-4 seconds delay which I DONT CARE about!
You'll still play the same game with the same performance with less money.Why not?
Ok for benchmarking wh**es intel is a way better than amd but i dont think like that.
Craver my Rig cost £1800:00 and i can tell you its good for 3 years no matter what games are brought out,it comes down to economics,No-Way are these studio's going to keep making games every year were you have to upgrade your Rig.
there are far to many gamers out there who just cannot afford this kind of money,as for buying a Rig for "Your words"

this kind of money I would not be HAPPY owning and relying on it to play top class games on PC.
P.S.My Rig was bought off the shelf you can check it out its a MEDION Erazer X81 and its made in Germany.

That was over 3 years ago and apart from not having dx11 i can still run all games on max and when nvidia make a twin card that totally kills my gtx295 then i will just up grade that

Genuine windows - pir@ted will do the job
2 TB hdd - 300 or 500gb max is enough for me.
and so on..
I mean i can save so much money by simple things, pc gaming is all about gpu (and cpu a little). So yes a gpu should cost 350$ to play top games, but if you havent money you can save a lot by removing things that are unnecessary.
You see pc gaming at max settings isnt hard to achieve these days.But if thats your needs its okay you can afford them you will buy them. But im sure we both will play battlefield 3 with 45+ fps.

Craver i am qiute suprised that you have PIRATED Windows installed,because i have read that (and plz bare with me)in China if you obtain Windows thats not genuine when its loaded and run on the Rig you get a Black Screen,then there is no way you can then run that illegal Windows because Microsoft have built in this so called Black Screen.
On the other hand i myself do not PIRATE any kind of software,this is one of the GREAT problems these studio's have stopping members and the General Public from doing what you are BOASTING about,for thats not cricket and it would be a good idea to EDIT that if you can and keep your THIEVING quiet.
If you think i am being harsh Craver i do not intend to offend you but i say again admitting thieving Genuine Windows is very very,Bad Karma.
