yes I would also say that the barbarian is the first choice if it comes to the SP. i started with the demon hunter which is a real bad ass on long range attacks but sucks in close quarter combat whats not easily to avoid if you play alone. even with all the traps, resulting that i have to run back several times till i have just 2-6(depending on their size) enemys behind me to knock them out 1 after 1. the demon hunter is now in a support role on nightmare co-op games and the barbarian is slaying all the bad demons in sp alone.
didn't tested the other chars right now but the monk might be a good alternative to the demon hunter and barbarian.
fact is: i want my amazon from diablo2 back

The monk so far has been very solo friendly.

    Find a group.

    Blind them all.

    Do an AoE.

    Spam single attack.

    Do another AoE.

I like my monk. i've been playing all the way to lvl 52 as of now, in hell mode and haven't died once. All my health potions are sold to vendors as I looted them. My monk healed up each time it uses special attacks and with life regen aura + companion's life regen aura = Cheathappens' trainer god mode!

I'm having no issues Solo'ing with a Demon Hunter. You just have to be extra cautious. Oh and use a lot of slowing\stunning effects.

    Demon Hunter for me.
    I listen not to sympathy
    Whilst ruler of this land
Withdraw your feeble aches and moans
Or suffer smite from this my hand.

It seems like no one here has gotten into Inferno...

Any melee class is pretty worthless Act 2+ in Inferno.

If you get to one rare pack that has several melee range AoE effects like Plagued, Molten, Desecrator, or Electrified mobs you can count on skipping them.

Wizards are the OP solo class at the moment and can solo Inferno bosses easily with the right build/setup.
