I'm doing a quest called The Cornered Rat where you have to go to Riften's Ratway sewers to find Esbern. The problem is, he's bugged and his audio dialog doesn't work and text just flies by. Apparently I'm not the only one with the bug as I saw a site where someone posted a solution, and apparently many people shared the same bug that I did and since the solution worked for me I thought I'd post it here for all of you.

See, the whole quest can get bugged and not work just because of a dialog bug, but you can get around that. The way I did it which was quite easy used OBMM (Oblivion Mod Manager) which requires Oblivion be installed. You'd go to the Skyrim's Data folder and right click Skyrim - VoicesExtra and click to open it, it should automatically use OBMM, just click yes to open it anyways and then extract it to the same data folder.

If done correctly then it will create a new sound folder in your data folder with the dialog needed and you won't get that bug ever again, and you don't even have to wait for a patch.

I hope this helps some people.

I also trapt rat corner bug. I try all dialog options but i can't pass. So i move another quest which is thief quests. but I think rat corner mission is main mission. we must handle this. However your way is too hard.

Actually, the method I did just required me reinstalling Oblivion(the longest part of the process), installing OBMM, and then right clicking to unpack the bsa into the data folder where it's found. Doing so totally fixed the bug and it /is/ a main quest so it is one that will need to be done.

When i get out the dungeon and get in again, the problem solved. the door opened, (after a little waiting) the old man come with me. but he allways made problems. in every time, i need to get out and get in, othewise this man (old man) continuie to make trouble. now i am in a meeting with the city king. And old man turn, but old man can't talk so the game stop.
We need a (easy) solition for this man.

By the way, there is a solution for meeting: save and load get over the oldman talking problem. and i have been finish the meeting.

I used the Fallout MM and I don't have any of the Bethesda games installed atm since I just rebuilt my system and haven't had time to reinstall everything.

It still works to extract the bsa as long as .bsa files are associated with the MM.

This worked for me, just make sure that u run the program as an administrator, and also once u complete the dialog give the old man a lil time to open the door.

I suppose FOMM could work, I didn't even think to try, to be honest. Someone suggested using some Morrowind BSA unpacker but that didn't work for me so tried the oblivion mod manager and bam it worked. Also, I didn't need to use the program in administrator mode.

You don't have to install OBMM, you just need the BSA extractor that is all.

Extract the voicesextra.bsa file (Extract All) to the data folder and it will work.
