This is a total new game, more like Magic 2, instead of the same game. It even installs as a new game and not as a addon or same game. You can play both games seperatly.

I posted this in the trainer request, but I suppose it's relevant here too.
"All-new and redesigned, Magic: The Gathering — Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 takes last year’s massive hit game to even greater heights with better graphics, more options, and new challenges!"
This is... open to interpretation. I first read it as being an updated and improved version of the 2009 game, but after reading it a few times I can also read it as being new. It's also listed as a sequel and follow-up to the 2009 game in some places.
It's entirely possible that they've used the 2009 game as a base for the 2012 version, which would explain why the executable looks like merely an updated version. It's priced as a budget game, so doing this would cut down development costs and time.

I for one feel this game is different enough from the previous to warrant it as being a an entirely new game, granted features have not changed too much, but the fact it has a brand new interface, no decks have been recycled, different opponents, better online play with new archenemy mode, you can now do 2headed giant online, and modify each deck with greater customization than the previous title, I would warrant that enough to consider it a new game or at LEAST a stand-alone expansion if you are determined to view it as more of the same. I request the trainer already in the official request thread, but I am also throwing my support for it in this thread.
