F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin Message Board  

hey guys i need help!!! i can't install any of the patches from v1.01 to v1.05..in all of them i get same message "FEAR is not currently installed, Update Aborted"...i even reinstall the game but still gives me same message..is it because it's installed in C:\Games\FEAR 2 Project Origin?...please help!

I am guessing this is the thread you meant.

Things that come to the top of my head.

1. You're using patches that maybe for retail on a digital copy, or vice versa
2. Try and install the patch with compatibility modes. You didn't say which OS you are using.
3. Reinstall the game but this time instead of using the folder C:\Games\FEAR 2 Project Origin use C:\Games\FEAR2 instead

Audio: AMD High Definition Audio Device

i reinstall the game to C:\Games\FEAR2 then i put the patch inside the installation folder and run it from there as administrator with compatibility mode Windows XP (Service Pack 2) i used "Troubleshot Compatibility" so it's automatically choose best compatibility mode and UAC is off..now it's says "F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is not currently installed, Update Aborted" LOL! i didn't had any problems patch my original F.E.A.R. game and F.E.A.R. Extraction Point...so what's the problem? do i need some other type of patch like Direct2Drive or Steam patch? although my F.E.A.R. 2 game is Retail

If it is retail then no, the retail patch will work.

Goto Start > and in the search box type regedit and press enter

In the new window

Goto

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > At this point im not sure what it will be listed under Monolith, WB Games or Fear 2.. have a look if none then you don't have a registry entry for the game.

Also check another path

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > and look for any signs again of Fear 2

If you're unsure, instead of opening those you can search for the string fear2 and see if it will find the entries then. If nothing then definitely no registry entry for the patch to see.

EDIT: Oh I remembered something if you use Kaspersky it is rubbish as it usually blocks programs from checking the registry if you have it running disable it entirely or shut it down and then install the patch.

here's what i found...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > FEAR2Game

And

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Monolith Productions > FEAR2 > 1.00.0000

there is a registry and it's couldn't be corrupted because the game is installed fine so maybe it's problem with the patch? i downloaded it from GamersHell.com it's pretty good website i won't believe they would upload stuff..and i got Norton Symantec Anti-Virus,Windows Defender,and Microsoft Security Essentials

EDIT: LOL! i found " steam_api.dll " in the installation folder...but i don't have steam installed i play the game without it so probably i got the Steam Version...or maybe not because i can use the trainer for the Original Retail(Mega Trainer 1.0.2240)... 🤔

finally i found a working patch! although it's illegal patch probably i won't able play Multi-Player/Online because it's patching the game and then replace files to avoid detection of Steam or CD/DVD Check but at least all bugs fixed and i can play normally Single-Player
