Personally I'm disappointed with the monotonous storyline and the fact that I can't seem to care about the characters.
When I had first played DA:O, my first recollection of it was that I simply did NOT want to stop playing, simply to see what what going to happen. I don't get that same feeling here...at the moment I have a "I can take it or leave it" mindset, which for ANY RPG, imho, can't be a good thing.
It's wholly possible that it was rushed to market without much forethought on the RPG element and possibly kow-towing to the console population. Here, I feel directionless and almost without purpose.
I sincerely WANT to love this game, but at the moment I can only like it, and that is sporadic.
I could not agree more, you wrote verbatim what was on my mind. I do enjoy the game, and it can be fun to play, but also, I find i like to take breaks after 2 hours or so, when I played DAO I played sometimes for 6 hours straight. It's a bit of a downer... Hopefully the mods will Improve things, as well as some DLC's but I'm not holding my breath. Here's to waiting for the witcher 2 in may, and ME3 this holidays.
I think that the point of people comparing this to DA:O being a flawed comparison is a very good point. This isn't really even a sequel to Origins. It's just a game that takes place in the same world and essentially has similar lore.
That being said, I actually like it better than Dragon Age: Origins. It is graphically way superior. I thought the people in DA:O looked really silly and foolish (especially Arl Howe, who didn't look ANYTHING AT ALL like a human to me, haha). Dragon Age 2 is a lot flashier.
The gameplay is sooooo much more fun. One of my only problems with Origins was the failure of the gameplay, especially so early on. It felt like I was playing a dumbed down version of runescape. This game's gameplay is essentially the same, I believe, but the key is that they SPED IT UP to make it look so much more flashier. Just watching my warrior leap 5 feet and strike down 5 darkspawn with one swipe of his double-handed sword makes this game so much more enjoyable than the first.
The only thing I think is lacking in this game when compared to Origins is the storyline, and even then, from what I've seen so far, the storyline seems really good. Origins was great because the story took all of these amazing twists and turns that you couldn't have expected. On top of that, your entire game's storyline could literally change based on what class, race, or gender you selected, which I thought was a really sick feature. For example, I picked a human noble my first way through. Arl Howe kills my family? I go to King Cailin and he promises me vengeance? But then, holycrapomfgwowbbq, King Cailan dead by ANOTHER twist?!?! The storyline in Origins was so much more complex and therefore captivating than the storyline (so far) in DA2.
But other than that, I feel this game is soooo much more enjoyable than Origins. Which is hard for me to say, because I freaking loved Origins and played through it I think 6 separate times.
I think that Skyrim is going to have A LOT to compete with in DA2. I think DA2 is WAY better than DAO, but the storyline is relatively worse than DAO. And when you think about it, isn't that generally the best part about Bioware RPG games? The storylines?
I think you are wrong. But that is me. Story in this one sucks. (I played another 2 hours of DA2. Graphic as I said are missing that umph that DAO had. I loved the graphics in DAO.
But now You are trying to compare Elder scrolls game to DA2? lol that is nuts. But each to there own. I think DA2 has changed abit to much for me. To say it is better than DAO
