Definitely! I am assuming you are getting it for PC? It requires some power for graphics, so unless you have a decent rig, don't count on using the highest settings. The game is a visual beauty, though the characters look average. Lots of mods online as well (or you make you own with the available toolset). If you get it, get the GOTY edition, you'll get, minimum, at least 100hrs of gameplay out of it.

You don't though I have seen on Youtube where they modded Fallout 3 for the 360, and the same engine that runs Oblivion is the same as the one for Fallout 3 and Vegas.. You can look up exploits and glitches that still can be used in Oblivion, especially through the DLC. There's one glitch (though the biggest one was patched long ago) where you can duplicate items and apply their powers to your character permanently. Just don't make yourself permanently invisible, which is possible.

Don't doubt the game's potential, buy it! The EPICNESS of it will bowl you over!

Hmmmmm, think I'll nab a PC version 4 myself just for the mods. My 360 looks happier with all that dust on it anyway LOL.

Because if you're invisible, certain quest cannot be activated since you are not seen. Besides, what fun is there in that, if you can just run around not being seen, making the game a no fighting game. You can just kill people and creatures without any them fighting back because they just stand there.
