Most of you probably haven't heard, but our South Island (New Zealand) was struck by a 7.1 magnitude quake on Saturday. Fortunately no-one was killed, though 1 man has died as a result of a heart attack brought on by the quake, and 2 had serious but non-threatning injuries. I have included a couple of links that show a map shoeing the number of aftershocks since the main quake. Also a link to our local TV News website with vids and photos of the destruction. Cost estimation of the quake has been made of 4 billion dollars(NZ).

Link quake map - regularly updated as more aftershocks continue.

Whaddya mean haven't heard? It's been mainline news here since the event. >_>

I was on another forum where a member linked to an internet radio station broadcasting non-stop news on the event. It was interesting to hear first-hand accounts.

    A damn miracle nobody died.

That's really sad. Thankfully there's hardly any casualties. Are measures taken for the people who are now homeless?
Trust is a fragile thing. Once trust is lost, it can be impossible to recover. Those we're closest to can betray us,and total strangers can come to our rescue. In the end, most people decide to trust only themselves. It really is the simplest way to keep from getting burned.

There are emergency shelters set up. The government has put aside funds for rebuilding and loss of income for workers.

    No, I haven't heard, I've been living under a rock >_>

It's been top news everywhere, I can't believe that no one was killed in the actual earthquake, I've seen how a building had been completely totaled while the building right across the road looked good as new.

I hope everything gets back to normal again soon, but after something that big, its probably going to take quite a bit of time.

Good to know no one died from the earthquake. The only thing now for New Zealand is to rebuild what was destroyed. I can't imagine how it must be for the people there, especially for those that have lost their homes.

I knew some people who are currently going to university down in Christchurch, I wonder how they are going right now.

Yeah it's been headlining here for a couple of days. Really unfortunate. I also heard this morning that another earthquake struck?
