actually civ 5 does EVERYTHING this game tries to do better
if you want short games in civ5 just pick a small map
something which alot of people dont do...
and yes, alot of civ games are really long..
but if you compare civ and this game, civ will obviously come out on top hands down
this game is much more simpler and the games are more fast paced
for example, your relationship with other countries is basically war or no war
in civ 5 its much much more deep
so yes, the casual gamer MIGHT like this better
but if he ever does play civ,
he'll think of this game and go , damn this is much better!
I'm afraid you just missed the entire point of my post... and please don't refer to someone else in the topic in the third person- it's rude. If they've posted, direct your comments to them. You wouldn't go out with friends and talk about someone to someone else while that person was stood right next to you would you?
I'll put it simply- everyone has their own tastes, respect theirs, and they'll respect yours. My taste is that I'm not a particular fan of Civilization, whether it's a short-and-sweet game or a this-is-taking-days game. You're assuming I've never played a Civ game before (and you know what they say about assumptions), or at least very little of one. However, I've played every Civ game from Civ II - Test of Time onwards, and that was the last Civ game I actually enjoyed. So no, I'm not going to play a Civ game and think "whoa, this is much better".
Besides which, comparing games is something I frown upon anyway, because more often than not it's like comparing eggs and aeroplanes. The simple fact is that I don't enjoy Civ, but I do enjoy this. I can just jump into Warlock and get playing, which is perfect for my condition. Call that "casual" if you want, but you'd be wrong. That's all there is to it.

I read tides' comment as being broadly speaking to the larger casual gamer community. Feeling a bit hyper-sensitive?
Additionally, I didn't realize the thread was all about your taste.
Nice derail.

Considering I'm responding to two specific posts, which are directly related to my own comments, you're just looking for a witty come-back. Which has failed. Enjoy looking for an argument on the internet elsewhere.
Oh, and as for the "hyper-sensitive", you'll notice the final part of tides' post, which specifically refers to "him" as directed at the "him" who has already posted something directly relating to what tides said. If it wasn't specifically directed at me, so be it, but in that case he should better word his posts. Good day.

I have to thoroughly disagree. Playing the demo I've enjoyed it. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a turn-based strategy- Civilisation - and in turn Civilisations clones - drags everything out far too much and quickly becomes a bore. This, however, is fun.
It's curious, though, how often when someone likes a game which others don't, they're instantly thrown into the "fanboi following" category. Couldn't it just be that someone has different tastes than you?
One can like something without reaching the level of fanaticism deserving of the label of "fanboi".
Agreed and understood and accepted.
You are allowed to like the game. It's ok. No harm. No foul.
Quit deflecting.
In your disagreement; however, I don't believe you present anything other than an emotional argument.
I'm very interested in anything else you might like to present.
What virtues does the game have that are innovative?
Is there anything about the game that is reall new that we have not seen before in another title?
How does the game make us think?
OR -- on another level...
How does the game let us unwind in new ways?
How does the game let us connect with people in new ways?
How does the game develop our ability to relax?
C'mon --- if you disagree --- why?

People play games because they enjoy them. That is the entire purpose of playing games in the first place. End of story.
People have different opinions than you do. Accept that and drop it.
Context is everything.
In this case you mus-interpreted. Topic locked and warnings will be issued if you continue in other threads.
